TPEx Index (Taiwan OTC market)

Traditional Chinese: 櫃買1 real trading day

The TPEx Index tracks stocks listed on Taipei Exchange, Taiwan's over-the-counter (OTC) market, which is home to many smaller and mid-sized companies. Day traders in Taiwan often watch it alongside individual stocks, because when the index turns, many OTC stocks tend to move with it. On the hand-drawn charts it is labeled OTC.

Oct 29, 2026 (Thu) | OTC index sells off with almost no bounce

Comparing the two first hours side by side, this day had almost no meaningful bounce. A straight-down market actually makes shorting stressful, because you never know when it will suddenly snap back.

After hitting its low, the OTC index moved sideways for thirty minutes.
Sideways action after a selloff is the hardest moment to read in day trading. It can break lower or rally. On this day every extra sideways bar raised the odds of a rally, so every short was kept short-term.

After thirty minutes of sideways action the OTC index rallied, but the stock couldn't follow.
The day's biggest fear came true: the OTC index finished consolidating and rallied. But the stock had fallen too far and still couldn't move up with it. When a stock lags the index like this, the short still has room.

The index couldn't hold its rally; the spike faded and closed at the low, showing the upward push didn't last. With the market weakening, it was time to look for a third short.
