Sideways Consolidation
Sideways consolidation is a stretch where price moves back and forth inside a narrow range instead of trending up or down. After a sharp move, the market often pauses like this before choosing a direction. It can break either way: continue the earlier trend, or reverse. On a 5-minute chart, a consolidation can last from a few bars to well over half an hour.
Sideways Consolidation in my real trades
Oct 29, 2026 (Thu) | OTC index moves sideways for 30 minutes
Sideways action after a selloff is the hardest moment to read in day trading. It can break lower or rally. On this day every extra sideways bar raised the odds of a rally, so every short was kept short-term.
